KeyHelp® 24.2 - Ubuntu 24.04 support and other new features

by Alexander Mahr

In the coming days, the new KeyHelp version 24.2 will be released. With this update, KeyHelp now supports the recently released Ubuntu 24.04 (codename "Noble Numbat").

Below is an overview of selected new features in the new KeyHelp version.

  • Support for Ubuntu 24.04
From now on, you can install and operate KeyHelp on a system equipped with Ubuntu 24.04.

As usual, a guide and an upgrade script will be made available to ensure a smooth transition from Ubuntu 22.04 to Ubuntu 24.04.

Please never perform a distribution upgrade manually; always use a script provided here.
  • Custom user interface notifications (Pro feature)
Administrators of a KeyHelp server can now place their own notifications in the KeyHelp user interface. This can be useful for informing customers or announcing important updates and maintenance work.

You can find this feature under "Configuration" → "Custom UI Notifications."

This feature is part of the KeyHelp Pro version and can only be used on systems equipped with a KeyHelp Pro license.
  • List of all installed software packages
The dashboard in the KeyHelp administration area provides a clear list of the version numbers of important services installed on the server. However, in some cases, it is necessary to obtain more detailed information or retrieve the version number of software not listed. For this reason, starting with version 24.2, KeyHelp offers a complete overview of all software packages installed on the server and their exact versions, including the operating system manufacturer's patch levels.

Access the list via the "System Status" → "Installed Software Packages" menu item.
  • Attach notes to backups
From now on, it is possible to add individual notes to backups. This will make it easier for you to organize your backups and speed up the process of finding specific backup snapshots.

You can find the additional input field for your notes in the "Create backup" or "Schedule regular backups" input forms in the backup management area.
  • Notes on the client dashboard
Administrators have been able to save notes on their KeyHelp dashboard for some time. With the upcoming update, client accounts will also be able to save individual notes.

This feature is located on the dashboard in the client area.
  • Deprecated webmailer RainLoop removed
With the new KeyHelp version, the outdated webmail client RainLoop has been completely removed. If RainLoop was activated on a system, the webmailer has been switched to its spiritual successor, SnappyMail.

In case you still need to access data such as signatures or address books from your RainLoop instance, you can find a backup of this data under /home/keyhelp/keyhelp.backup/panel_updates/rainloop_*.
  • Note for users of the "Scheduled Tasks" → "Call URL" feature
Please note that for the task type "Call URL," with the upcoming update, there will no longer be any output if the URL returns HTTP status code 200. Output will only occur in case of an error.
Please adjust your notification options to match the new behavior.
